Abstract:

This talk is about the question of when every element in

the matrix ring M_n(R) over a commutative (reduced) ring R can be expressed as a sum of three idempotents. Further developments

of this topic will be also addressed.

报告人简介

Zhou received his Ph.D from the University of British Columbia, Canada, in 1993, is now a tenured full professor in Mathematics at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. Zhou's specialties are in ring theory, module theory,and linear algebra. Zhou is a co-author of the monograph ``Classes of Modules''

(Pure and Applied Mathematics, 281. Chapman and Hall/CRC, Boca Raton, FL, 2006),and the author or co-author of over 150 research papers. Zhou has had collaboration with algebraists from Bulgaria, Canada, China, Egypt, Germany, India, Iran, Japan, Poland, Romania, Taiwan, Turkey, Vietnam and USA.

Zhou's research is funded by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada.Zhou is a referee for several publishing houses such as John Wiley & Sons, Inc., Cambridge University Press and World Scientific Publishing Co., and for more than 30 periodicals including Acta Applicandae Mathematicae, Bulletin des Sciences Mathematiques, Bulletin
